The Traitors Bottle Cloak β Free Crochet Pattern (Wine & Prosecco)
The Traitors is back. The fire is lit. The cloaks are dramatic. And somewhere in the castle, someone is lying through their teeth. π‘οΈ
We are absolutely obsessed with this series β and if you're anything like us, you've been watching every episode thinking: "I could crochet that cloak."
Well, good news. You absolutely can. And in this pattern, we're going to show you how to make a miniature Traitors-inspired hooded cloak that fits perfectly around a standard 75cl wine or prosecco bottle. It makes the most brilliant gift, a hilarious prop for a Traitors watch party, or just a deeply satisfying weekend project.
Because honestly? Your prosecco deserves to be mysterious. πΎ
π§Ά What You'll Need
Yarn
For that proper Traitors drama, you want a dark DK weight yarn. We recommend:
π€ KORBOND DK Black Yarn 100g β just Β£2.99 on Amazon UK, this is the perfect choice. It's a crisp, clean black acrylic DK that holds its shape beautifully and is wonderfully affordable. You'll only use about 40-50g for this project, so one ball is more than enough β with plenty left over for your next make.
You could also experiment with deep navy, forest green, or burgundy for a twist on the classic Traitors look. Any DK weight yarn will work with this pattern.

This pattern uses a 4.5mm crochet hook. If you don't already have one, we'd recommend picking up a full set so you're covered for future projects too.
Our top pick is the Vodiye 14-Piece Ergonomic Crochet Hook Set (Β£16.00) β all sizes from 2mm to 10mm, beautifully comfortable handles, and a great case. Brilliant value.
On a budget? The H&S Crochet Hooks Set with Pouch at just Β£4.79 does the job perfectly and is ideal if you're just getting started.

- Yarn needle (for weaving in ends)
- Scissors
- 1 small button, snap fastener, or a length of gold/ribbon yarn for the clasp
- Stitch marker (optional but helpful)
- 1 bottle of wine or prosecco β for modelling purposes only, obviously π
π Sizing & Tension
This pattern is designed to fit a standard 75cl wine or prosecco bottle (approximately 30cm tall, 28cm body circumference). The cloak is designed to drape rather than fit snugly, so tension is not critical. If your cloak comes out slightly larger or smaller, it will still look magnificently dramatic.
Approximate tension: 14 dc x 18 rows = 10cm square using DK yarn and 4.5mm hook.
π Abbreviations (UK Terms)

tr = treble crochet (US: double crochet)

π‘οΈ The Pattern
PART 1 β The Hood
The hood is worked flat as a rectangle, then folded and seamed to create the dramatic peaked shape.
Foundation: Ch 22.
Row 1 (RS): DC in 2nd ch from hook, dc in each ch to end. (21 dc)
Rows 2β16: Ch 1, turn. DC in each st to end. (21 dc β work straight, no increases)
You now have a rectangle approximately 15cm wide x 9cm tall. Fold the rectangle in half along the long edge (so the two short ends meet). Using your yarn needle, seam across the top folded edge with a whip stitch or mattress stitch. This creates the hood. Turn right side out β the seam will be hidden inside. π
Pro tip: Add a couple of tiny ears at the top seam corners by making two small ch 4 loops before seaming β for a slightly theatrical peaked hood effect. Very Traitors.
PART 2 β The Cloak Body
The cloak body is worked flat in rows from the neck edge downward. It increases gradually at each edge on every other row to create the natural A-line flare of a dramatic cloak.
Foundation: Ch 20.
Row 1 (RS): DC in 2nd ch from hook, dc in each ch to end. (19 dc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. 2DC in first st, dc in each st to last st, 2DC in last st. (21 dc)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn. DC in each st. (21 dc)
Row 4: Ch 1, turn. 2DC in first st, dc in each st to last st, 2DC in last st. (23 dc)
Row 5: Ch 1, turn. DC in each st. (23 dc)
Rows 6β7: Repeat Rows 4β5. (25 dc after Row 6)
Rows 8β9: Repeat Rows 4β5. (27 dc after Row 8)
Rows 10β11: Repeat Rows 4β5. (29 dc after Row 10)
Rows 12β13: Repeat Rows 4β5. (31 dc after Row 12)
Rows 14β15: Repeat Rows 4β5. (33 dc after Row 14)
Rows 16β17: Repeat Rows 4β5. (35 dc after Row 16)
Rows 18β21: Ch 1, turn. DC in each st. (35 dc β work straight for 4 rows to add length to the hem)
Fasten off and weave in ends. This is your cloak body β a neat trapezoid shape that will wrap beautifully around the bottle.
PART 3 β Joining Hood to Cloak
Place the bottom open edge of the hood along the top edge of the cloak body, centring it (there will be a short section of cloak edge on each side of the hood β these become the front panels that fasten at the neckline).
Using your yarn needle, whip stitch the hood to the cloak body along this top edge. The hood should sit in the middle third of the cloak's neck edge, with roughly 3β4cm of cloak visible on each side.
PART 4 β Edging
For a polished, Traitors-worthy finish, work a simple border all the way around the cloak:
Attach yarn to the bottom right corner of the cloak. Working with RS facing:
Round 1: DC evenly up the right front edge, around the hood opening, and back down the left front edge, then dc along the bottom hem edge. Join with sl st.
Round 2 (optional decorative edge): Sl st, ch 3, sl st in next st β repeat around for a pretty picot edging. Alternatively, work a simple row of dc for a clean finish.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
PART 5 β The Clasp
A cloak needs a clasp. Here are your options:
- Button clasp: Sew a small dark button to the right front edge at the neckline. On the left front edge, make a small button loop: attach yarn, ch 5, sl st back into the same spot. Done.
- Gold cord tie: Cut a 30cm length of gold or bronze yarn and thread through the neckline edge on each side. Tie in a bow when dressing your bottle.
- Safety pin brooch: The laziest and arguably most stylish option. A vintage-looking brooch pinned at the neck. Very Traitors chic.
β¨ Making It Your Own
Once you've mastered the basic black cloak, the creative options are genuinely endless:
- Add a lining: Work the same pattern in cream or gold yarn, then seam the two together for a lined cloak with a luxurious peek of colour
- Gold trim: Work the edging round in a gold or bronze metallic yarn β deeply dramatic
- Personalise it: Embroider a small "F" (Faithful) or "T" (Traitor) on the front panel in contrast yarn
- Bigger version: Scale up using chunky yarn and a 6mm hook to make a bottle cloak for a magnum β maximum drama for maximum occasions
- Make a set: Dress a full collection of bottles for the ultimate Traitors watch party table setting π‘οΈπ‘οΈπ‘οΈ
